Malaysia's PM Najib to deliver report card on his administration

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak will be speaking on national television on Tuesday evening to deliver a report card on his administration.

With the general election expected to be called any time, many are expecting Mr Najib to dish out a sterling report card highlighting the impressive achievements since he took office about four years ago.

Malaysia has enjoyed strong economic growth in the past year. The fourth quarter GDP last year came in at 6.4 per cent, surpassing analysts' forecast. Gross national income per capita grew by almost 50 per cent in the past four years while foreign direct investment surged over 20 per cent last year.

Unemployment is kept around three per cent while inflation remains low.Mr Najib is expected to stress these figures are the results of his government's rigorously executed economic and government transformation programmes.

Under his continued stewardship, Malaysia is on course to become a developed and a high income nation by 2020.And if the Barisan Nasional government is voted back into power, the people can continue to expect cash handouts, book vouchers and rebates and so on.

Mr Najib may remind the people about the ongoing security crisis in Sabah that has been described as one of the worst faced by Malaysia in decades. He has reassured Malaysians that the situation is under control and that his government will hunt down and flush out every single Sulu militant to protect the safety and the sovereignty of the nation.

This will be an important moment for Mr Najib as he attempts to fire up the spirit of the nation and generate enough good momentum on the ground before dissolving the parliament which is widely expected as early as this week to pave the way for the much anticipated general election.
